Brazil have hauled themselves back up from their disappointing failure in the Copa America with a run of seven straight wins and with six of these coming in their World Cup qualifiers, they look very well placed to make the journey to Russia in 2018. The Brazilians enjoy a cushion of some four points at the top of the qualifying group with 27 points from twelve games and they can add to that with a win against second-placed Uruguay this week.
These two sides fought out a 2-2 draw at Recife a year ago with Brazil storing into the lead within the first half-hour but the Uruguayans levelling matters with goals coming from Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez. Indeed Uruguay have won their last six home games with sixteen goals scored and just one conceded, therefore it wouldn’t be a massive surprise to see them manage something from this clash. This is a tough match to call, therefore we’ll be avoiding the outright winner market as this game could go any way.
We’ll be going for goals on this one instead. Uruguay may have leaked just a single goal in their home qualifying matches but they will be facing a high-scoring Brazil outfit which is averaging just over two goals pre game at the moment and which possesses no shortage of top-quality firepower. Nevertheless Uruguay also have attacking quality in abundance with Cavani and Suarez certain to cause problems for the visitors’ rearguard, therefore we fully expect to see both nets bulge this week.
Indeed with such attacking talent on disposal, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing a goalscorer, however we’ll be backing Barcelona star Neymar to find the net at some point. Neymar has banged in four for Barca in his last four games while internationally he has scored eight in eight appearances. He will certainly prove a handful for Uruguay and we fancy his chances of adding to the scoresheet this week.
