Walter Mazzarri’s Hornets enjoyed something of a mini-revival in late January and early February, the side recording back-to-back 2-1 wins over Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and Burnley at Vicarage Road. Indeed Watford’s form on home soil has been particularly impressive and should they continue in a similar vein this weekend then it is hard to see them dropping any points against West Ham.
Mazzarri’s side have lost just twice in their last eleven games at Vicarage Road and whilst they sit in the bottom half of the Premier League table as things stand, three points against the Hammers would propel them even further away from the relegation zone.
Indeed the Hornets have never ventured too far towards the bottom three this season, something which we really didn’t expect. Many pundits confidently predicted that Watford would be amongst the relegation battlers for much of the campaign but such a scenario never materialised. Instead the side have more than held their own against some of the bigger teams in the division and it would be a huge upset were they to be dragged into the mire any time soon.
West Ham United are in a similar situation and whilst they experienced something of a downturn in fortunes earlier in the season, they appear to have successfully regrouped and look set to finish the campaign with a mid-table position.
Strangely enough, it is at home where West Ham are experiencing their main problems. On the road they are red-hot with just one defeat away from the London Stadium since November, however we expect this record to come to an end when they visit Vicarage Road on Saturday afternoon. The Hornets are enjoying a fine old time of things on home soil and they won’t be letting the Hammers spoil things for them. An away goal may make things slightly interesting for the neutral but three points look set to be added to Watford’s total as they leapfrog the Hammers in the Premier League table.
