I imagine that it’s sometimes hard to be too optimistic if one is a Baggies fan. The club is usually to be found in either the lower reaches of the Premier League or amongst the promotion contenders in the Championship. It is rather unusual for them to be in the top-half of the Premier League table at this stage of the season, however that is exactly where the Baggies now find themselves.
A series of excellent results have propelled Tony Pulis’ side into eighth position and whilst we don’t for a second predict that they can bridge an eleven-point gap between themselves and Manchester United to make an impact on the top-six any time soon, we do believe that West Brom can improve considerably on last season where they finished in fourteenth position with a mere six points separating them from the relegation zone.
Indeed Pulis’ men are already just six points short of their total for the whole of 2015/16 and talk of relegation to the Championship is unusually absent from the thoughts of supporters. Another three points on Saturday afternoon would further cement their position in the top flight and we’re confident that this will prove to be the case when Bournemouth make the journey north to the Hawthorns.
The Cherries have been pretty abysmal of late, Eddie Howe’s men failing to register a single win in their last seven outings. With 21 goals conceded during that time, Bournemouth clearly have big problems at the back and their defensive frailties will once again be exposed by a Baggies side which are having few problems finding the back of the net. In fairness, Bournemouth are also managing to score with just three blanks in sixteen outings in all competitions. With this in mind we predict that they will bang in a consolation at the Hawthorns, however their dismal defence will prove their undoing as the Baggies go on to collect another three points in what has thus far been an excellent season for them.
