The appointment of David Moyes was hardly greeted with excitement and warmth by West Ham fans and it has come as no huge surprise that his reign with the club hasn’t got off to the best of starts. The Scot’s first four matches in charge of the Hammers have yielded just a single point and they were well and truly hammered to the tune of 4-0 by a pretty woeful Everton side two weeks ago. Moyes’ new charges took the lead against league leaders Manchester City in their last outing but they went in at the final whistle with nothing for their troubles and as they head towards the Christmas period, West Ham have a meagre total of ten points on the board after their opening fifteen league games.
This is clearly not a great time to be facing a Chelsea side which head into this fixture on the back of some decent form. The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid in their midweek outing in the Champions League at Stamford Bridge and this cost the Blues top-spot in their group, however they are nevertheless through to the knockout stages of the tournament and with seven games without defeat in domestic competition – winning six along the way – they will be confident of maintaining their tight grip on third place in the Premier League table by heading back across the capital with the three points in the bag this weekend.

In reality, how can one go against Chelsea at the moment? More obviously how can anyone go with West Ham given their recent showings? The Hammers showed signs of improvement in their clash with Manchester City but they are losing games hand over fist and their record in front of their home fans is certainly nothing to be proud of. Indeed with a mere two home wins to their name this season, their form at the London Stadium is utterly appalling and there is no way that we can back them to manage anything from this clash with a Chelsea outfit which have won all-but-two of their seven games away from Stamford Bridge. Italian Antonio Conte appears to have found a winning formula with Chelsea and whilst we don’t expect the visitors to run riot in East London this weekend, we do believe that they will grind out a victory against the struggling Hammers.
Belgian Eden Hazard has scored just once in his last four appearances but overall he has been enjoying some excellent form for the Blues in recent months with four goals in the last five matches on the road. He scored in each meeting with West Ham last season and we’ll be backing him to add to the scoreline when the sides meet at lunchtime on Saturday.
