It seems so long ago that Wigan Athletic were in the Premier League, however in reality it is only four years since their relegation from the top-flight. How things have changed. The Latics are struggling near the foot of the Championship as things stand and given their recent form look increasingly likely to be making the drop to League One as the weeks progress.
In reality only two points separate Warren Joyce’s men from safety and victory on Saturday afternoon could conceivably lift them out of the mire, however we expect the hosts to be in for a very tough afternoon when they collide with Nottingham Forest.
For their part, Forest haven’t been enjoying their season very much so far and they sit just six points above Wigan as we head into this weekend’s round of Championship fixtures. Indeed the manager-less side have been something of a mixed bag since the start of the campaign and their recent form doesn’t make great reading with back-to-back defeats to Norwich City, Fulham and Sheffield Wednesday heading into this weekend’s match.
To be fair, these are all sides very much in the hunt for a play-off place and when it comes to teams further down the Championship table, Forest have fared much better. The East Midlands outfit beat Aston Villa earlier this month and this came on the back of successive home wins over Bristol City and Rotherham United. Whilst Forest lost to Wigan in the third round of the FA Cup last month, we’ll be backing them to avenge this defeat by claiming a maximum points haul at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
