Middlesbrough had a complete disaster of a campaign in 2016/17 and it was no huge shock when they finally succumbed to the inevitable and dropped straight back into the Championship after just one season in the Premier League. Nevertheless the Steelmen are 9/4 favourites to swiftly return back to the top-flight and with Garry Monk now the man in the hot-seat on Teesside, many firmly believe that they will win promotion at the end of 2017/18.
One person who believe that they will is former Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka, the Spaniard saying:
“Boro are the biggest candidate to get promotion – and I say that not only from my heart, but my head.
“The chairman has showed he wants to get promotion straight away because the investment in the first two or three weeks of the summer has been amazing.
“This is the best example to show they want to go back to the Premier League as soon as possible. I think Middlesbrough will finish at the top of the table. They are the best team in the Championship because I know the changing room and the players.”
The stand-out signing during the summer was Britt Assombalonga for a reported £15million and Garry Monk has been given plenty of cash to splash. His new side impressed during their pre-season campaign with wins over Augsburg and Chesterfield and whilst Wolverhampton will provide tough opposition at Molineux this weekend, we expect the visitors to dominate from the outset and ultimately secure the three points in what looks set to be a thoroughly closely-fought encounter.
