Only a few short weeks ago Lincoln City were all alone at the top of the National League and few would have given anyone else a chance of catching them, however things are now far more open at the top of the table with Tranmere Rovers closing the gap completely on Danny Cowley’s men.
Lincoln City’s 1-1 draw with Sutton United wasn’t a great result for the Imps and they are no longer the champions-elect that they appeared to be until relatively recently. Cowley’s men deserve plenty of praise for their heroic FA Cup exploits and while this will certainly have boosted the club’s coffers somewhat, this will be of little comfort to the fans should the side fail to make it back into the Football League at the end of the season.
Nevertheless Tranmere Rovers will be looking to take full advantage of Lincoln City’s recent slip-ups and storm to the top of the table by collecting all three points at the Racecourse Ground this weekend. Can they do it? Indeed they can and with Micky Mellon enjoying a successful time with the club since his appointment earlier in the campaign, we see no reason why their three-match winning run will draw to a close on Saturday afternoon.
This is the third time that Tranmere have faced their ‘local’ rivals with Mellon’s men winning the league clash at Prenton Park and also triumphing at the Racecourse Ground in an FA Trophy clash in December. We believe that they will make it a third on Saturday afternoon against a Dragons side which have collected a measly two points from their last four National League games.
