Leicester City were far from impressive in their Champions League quarter-final first leg clash with Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon Stadium last week but they nevertheless avoided a thrashing at the hands of the Spanish outfit and headed home having conceded just a single goal.
Indeed whilst it was a backs-to-the-wall affair for much of the match, the Foxes can be proud of their efforts and while they have a massive mountain to climb should they wish to make it through to the semi-finals of the competition, they remain very much in contention and an early goal for the home side this evening would throw the tie wide open.
The visiting side are a level above Leicester City in all honesty and should dominate from the outset, however the Foxes proved resilient against Sevilla in the last round of the tournament and surprised many by dumping them out of the Champions League at the King Power Stadium. Will there be a repeat of this shock tonight?
We think not. Atletico will provide much tougher opposition than Sevilla and they should control this second leg clash. Whilst an Antoine Griezmann goal was the only difference between the sides in the Spanish capital last week, the visitors are pretty adept at holding onto slender leads although we believe that they will find the net early on and effectively put the tie out of sight for Craig Shakespeare’s men.
Either way we’re expecting a thrilling tie and the Foxes will have nothing to lose from having a go at Atletico tonight.
