Brighton are poised to once again take top-spot in the Championship after being knocked off their perch by a 2-0 defeat to Preston North End last weekend. The Seagulls have surprised many with some excellent performances and they have chased Newcastle United all the way so far.
The Magpies returned to the top of the table thanks to their 2-1 win at Brentford on Saturday, however the Seagulls enjoy a game-in-hand and manager Chris Hughton will be confident of making this advantage count on Friday evening when Sheffield Wednesday visit the Falmer Stadium.
The Owls have also enjoyed an excellent campaign so far and they look poised to make the play-offs for a second successive season. Carlos Carvalhal’s men suffered heartbreak in the Championship play-off final with a 1-0 defeat to Hull City at Wembley, however many believe that the side will go one better in 2016/17 with a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2000. This would clearly be no mean achievement, however their credentials will be severely put to the test on Friday evening when they face the high-flying Seagulls.
The home side are understandably favourites to seal the three points and thus leapfrog Newcastle United at the top of the table with most firms going Evens on a home win and 3/1 on a Sheffield Wednesday win.
