Jordan Henderson has had his odds to win the PFA Player of the Year award repeatedly slashed over the last week as recognition of his influential form begins to snowball.
The Liverpool captain is now an even-money (1/1) chance with 888Sport – but as big as 6/4 with Betfair and Paddy Power – to land the highly coveted accolade, having been a 10/1 chance just a week ago.
The latest move on Henderson, who was a gigantic 200/1 chance before the season got underway, comes on the back of his man of the match display in the Reds’ 4-0 defeat of Southampton at the weekend, a result that stretched his side’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to 22pts – the biggest lead any side has ever held in England’s top-flight division.
If Henderson does lift the crown then he will be the third Liverpool player to do so in as many years after Mo Salah in 2018 and Virgil van Dijk in 2019, while he will become the first Englishman to win the award since Wayne Rooney in 2010.
The often-underrated Henderson has emerged as one of the most influential midfield figures in world football and the 29-year-old will soon become the first Liverpool captain to lift the Premier League trophy.
Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler, who collected the PFA Young Player of the Year award in 1995, has long been a fan of Henderson, so much so that he feels the club’s wait for title glory may already be over had suspension not ruled the midfielder out of crucial fixtures during the climax of the 2013-14 season.
Fowler exclusively told bookmakers.co.uk: “I've never thought he was underrated in all fairness, he steadily goes about his business while bigger names always get the plaudits.
“In fact, I've said for years that I believe his suspension cost Liverpool the title the year Stevie Gerard fell over.
“Jordan is a genuine contender for this award and deservedly so.”

Liverpool Players Dominate The Market
Unsurprisingly, Liverpool players dominate the Player of the Year market, with Reds’ stars filling six of the first seven positions in the betting.
Only Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne (6/1) figures from rival clubs and there is a strong possibility that this year’s top three could all be Anfield stars.
An 888Sport spokesman said: “While Mo Salah and Sadio Mane may have got the headlines this year, the real driving force behind Liverpool’s record-breaking season has been Jordan Henderson – and it looks like he’s rightly going to be rewarded with the PFA Player of the Year trophy.
“After another dominant display against Southampton, Henderson has pulled ahead of his Liverpool teammates, and as well as getting his hands on the Premier League in May, we think he’ll be adding English football’s biggest individual award to his growing trophy cabinet.”
Bet365’s Steve Freeth added: “It’s a market that’s hotted up over the last few weeks with Jordan Henderson overtaking the injured Sadio Mane at the top of the betting.
“Defenders rarely win it, let alone retain it, but Virgil Van Dijk also has his backers to buck that trend and that’s before mentioning Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
“Kevin de Bruyne figures prominently in the betting but he, just like his Manchester City side, may have to take a back seat this season.”
Bet365 make the Reds 4/5 to win the Premier League by 20 or more points, 5/2 to go through the 38-game campaign without losing a game and 20/1 to win all of their remaining top flight matches.
