It’s clear that Jose Mourinho is desperate to protect his managerial legacy and knows that his time as Manchester United manager is drawing to an end.
When the Red Devils suffer any kind of poor result, the Portuguese has a ready-made excuse lined up and it’s certainly not his style to claim any responsibility considering the sheer volume of scapegoats at the ready.
Mourinho saw his team recover from going two goals down at St Mary’s to draw 2-2 against Southampton and the United boss lamented the lack of “mad dogs” in the United team which many regard as another implicit criticism of Paul Pogba.
Back the Gunners to Win
We’re certainly puzzled why this disjointed Red Devils side are favourites for Wednesday’s clash at Old Trafford, with bet365 offering 7/5 about a Manchester United side who have defensive injuries which could leave them wide open against Arsenal.
Perhaps it’s the fact that the Red Devils do tend to raise their game when facing the Gunners, with the two teams enjoying a historic rivalry and Mourinho managed to engineer home and away victories over these opponents in the Premier League last season.
There was a 2-1 win at Old Trafford after a 3-1 triumph at the Emirates although Arsenal absolutely hammered the goal in the latter game and it was only the goalkeeping heroics of David de Gea which saw United win.
We really like the idea of Unai Emery’s side claiming the points, with BetVictor offering 21/10 about a win for a team who are unbeaten in twelve matches and counting, with the Spaniard proving to be an instant hit with the club’s supporters.
It is clear that the Arsenal board have made a positive move by appointing someone who has engineered nine top flight victories despite the fact that the London side have not led in any of those games at the half-time stage.
Draw Price Appealing But Result Looks Questionable
Arsenal have drawn three matches this season and Betfair have 13/5 about this clash ending all square, although the visitors won’t be going there to land a point and come off the back of a stunning performance to overcome Tottenham on Sunday.
Quite simply, the Gunners destroyed their north London rivals at the weekend and it was crazy that they trailed 2-1 in that match before running out deserved 4-2 victors. It was a magnificent display of attacking football which had the stadium bouncing.
Arsenal are 4/1 with Bet365 to win the game with both teams scoring and it’s worth noting that all of the Gunners’ four away victories have seen both sides find the net, with United clearly capable of creating chances on home soil.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a special goal in the derby to turn things back the way of his team and the Gabon forward could be a decent shout at 11/2 with William Hill to score the opening goal for his team, with United potentially setting up defensively to try and deal with the attacking threat.
Emery will surely consider fielding Aaron Ramsey from the start after making such an excellent cameo appearance in the second half and BetVictor go 12/1 that the Welshman breaks the deadlock, with the midfielder sure to get into some good attacking positions.
All odds were correct when posted.
