Maurizio Sarri has admitted that it might take two months to become effective with his Chelsea squad although a winning start is always helpful and the Blues have found a way to beat Huddersfield and Arsenal in their opening games.
Sarri has torn up the Antonio Conte blueprint at Stamford Bridge and implemented an attacking style of play with the full-backs playing far forward and that’s especially the case with Marcos Alonso in the left-back position.
Jorginho’s arrival has seen N’Golo Kante rove further forward and look pretty dangerous and we should expect the Frenchman to form part of his team’s attacks against a Newcastle side who have started the season fairly slowly.
Alvaro Morata has started to regain confidence in addition to his place in the team, while Pedro and Willian are also looking like dangerous operators and the visitors will be looking for a fast start again in this clash.
Chelsea Obvious Favourites
Chelsea are a best price 7/10 with William Hill, the sort of odds where you might look back upon and lament how big it was, although we should bear in mind some of the porous defending that was on display against Arsenal in their last match.
In the first half, the Gunners created scoring chances at will and came back from 2-0 down to draw level by the interval, with Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan culpable of missing opportunities that might have put their team in front.
This Chelsea team are very much all about outscoring the opposition and this could be the first Premier League start of the season for Eden Hazard, with the Belgian having been kept in reserve in the first two matches before making influential cameo appearances.
Hazard looks set to have an outstanding campaign for the Blues and betway have 6/1 that the attacking midfielder breaks the deadlock, with Sarri considering him in a similar position to compatriot Dries Mertens at Napoli.
Newcastle to Nick First Win?
Unibet have 49/11 that Newcastle manage to land their first top flight win of the season and there was plenty to like about the way that the Magpies attacked Tottenham in their opening game when losing 2-1.
All of the goals occurred in the early stages of the match, although Rafael Benitez’s outfit came close to finding an equaliser on several occasions and they were also a missed penalty away from winning at Cardiff in their last match.
Going to Newcastle is never an easy assignment and their manager will be shrewd enough to identify weaknesses within the opposition ranks, with Sarri admitting his team are far from the finished article.
That might bring the draw into play and BetVictor come to the fore with an attractive 3/1 that this clash ends all square, even if a high-scoring encounter looks to be on the cards based on Chelsea’s attacking approach.
Paddy Power have 10/11 and this would cover a runaway Chelsea win as was the case away to Huddersfield along with a combative clash with both sides scoring which happened when Newcastle hosted opponents with similar ability in their opening match of the campaign.
Any Magpies win is likely to be achieved by taming higher quality opponents and finding a breakthrough before holding on to the advantage. With this in mind, there could be merit in backing the 5/4 (Betway) that the game is level at the break and the 15/1 with BetVictor about a 1-0 win in favour of Newcastle could be worthy of a small punt.
