Next Swansea City Manager Odds

Jody Morris is the latest betting favourite to become the next Swansea City manager, with the former Chelsea coach heading the market as the 2021-22 Championship season gets ever nearer. However, the Welsh club are thought to be considering several options, with Chris Wilder regarded as the more experienced option, while it might even be the case that they stick with caretaker boss Alan Tate in the short-term and see how things pan out.

Jody Morris Backed to Become Next Swansea Manager

Swansea City are the only professional club in the 92 who are without a football manager right now and they find themselves in a bizarre situation considering that the new season is just around the corner. Steve Cooper has decided not to stick around following the expiration of his contract and perhaps it will be Jody Morris who becomes the successful applicant for the vacant role.

Morris has been a number two in recent seasons, assisting Frank Lampard at Derby and Chelsea, although it appears that he has expressed an interest in the position and the bookies now go 7/4 that the former Chelsea midfielder gets the nod.

Chris Wilder Emerges as Front Runner for Swans Job

While there have already been a number of betting favourites to take charge of Swansea City, their odds have now drifted on the market and it is Chris Wilder that is near the top of the betting market as we count down to the big kick-off.

The Swans are scheduled to play their first game of the 2021-22 season when they head away to Blackburn Rovers on Saturday 7 August, with that trip to Ewood Park likely to involve caretaker manager Alan Tate taking charge unless Wilder or someone else is given the nod.

It's easy to see why Wilder can be a good fit for the Welsh club considering he is someone who can pick up the reins at the Liberty Stadium, having already secured promotion for Sheffield United from League One and also the Championship. Much depends son whether personal terms can be agreed.

Martin and Morris Originally in Two-Horse Race

The Next Swansea City Manager betting market looked to be a cut and dried affair considering that John Eustace was trading at short betting odds shortly after it had been announced that Steve Cooper was stepping down. Then came the turn of John Terry to go short in the market after he made a decision to leave Aston Villa.

However, it appears that Terry isn't anything like nailed on to take charge at the Welsh club and it's his former Chelsea team-mate Jody Morris who stands a better chance of getting this job according to the latest odds. Up to now, we've only seen Morris assist Frank Lampard at Derby and Chelsea.

That said, it could be Russell Martin who is given the nod and the MK Dons manager was odds-on before drifting back out, with the coach having earned a reputation for playing an attacking and stylish brand of football with the League One club and he might take any chance that is presented to him.

Would Swansea Take a Punt on Inexperienced Martin?

Martin might be regarded as something of a gamble considering his managerial experience extends to being in charge of MK Dons for the past couple of seasons, although he has made them into an attacking force in League One and perhaps he could be the right fit for the Swans.

After all, Swansea pride themselves on having an attacking football philosophy and perhaps they can see Martin taking the role considering that other candidates might be warned off by the fact that Cooper stepped down due to not being backed financially.

For now, Martin remains at MK Dons and has a very steadfast philosophy in terms of playing the game by moving the ball patiently, with the favourite for the Swansea job totally against the idea of playing long ball football and it could be something that earns him a pop at the job.

John Terry Could Be on Verge of Landing Swansea Gig

John Terry has been linked to a number of vacant managerial positions since he retired as a player, although the Chelsea legend has been content to learn the ropes under Dean Smith at Aston Villa. Now could be his time to step into the spotlight.

Terry has earned a strong reputation for his work with the Midlands club although it was confirmed on Monday 26 July that the former England captain would be standing down from his position and that suggested that a move to the Liberty Stadium was imminent.

The move to the ambitious Championship club mirrors a similar move made by former Chelsea team-mate Frank Lampard when he arrived at Derby County three seasons ago and acquitted himself well during the twelve months in charge. This include steering the Rams to the play-off final.

Jody Morris Also Shortens in Betting

Jody Morris was Frank Lampard's assistant at Derby and Chelsea, with the former Blues midfielder also among the betting favourites to replace Steve Cooper at Swansea. Lampard was always quick to credit Morris for the achievements made at Pride Park and Stamford Bridge.

It looks likely that Morris has expressed an interest in the available position and he's now trading at a shorter price than Lampard, although perhaps he would prefer to be a number two.

It wouldn't be a complete surprise to find that Morris joins forces with Terry in the dugout and it is interesting that they're both trading at short prices.

Eustace Now Drifting for Swansea Role

While the initial front runners to replace Steve Cooper at the Liberty Stadium were all household names in English football, it appears as though John Eustace is now the man most likely to take charge. The former Stoke midfielder is currently assistant manager at Queens Park Rangers, although the bookies have him at big odds-on to take charge.

The 41-year-old was in charge at Kidderminster Harriers between 2016 and 2018, with Eustace currently serving as Mark Warburton's assistant at QPR although it's thought that he is keen to take the role and hope to steer Swansea back into the Premier League after a fourth-placed finish last season before missing out against Brentford.

Cameron Toshack Another Surprise Name

It doesn't take a genius to work out that Cameron Toshack is the son of John, the Liverpool FC playing legend who also managed Swansea City as well as Real Madrid and the Welsh senior team. Now his son might be about to follow suit and the 51-year-old is familiar with Swansea after coaching the Under-23's between 2014-2019.

Toshack has more recently had a managerial spell in charge of Pafos FC in Cyprus although he's thought to be open to the prospect of replacing Cooper and the betting odds suggest he could be the man to take the role should terms not be agreed with Eustace.

Alan Tate Also Trading at Single Figure Betting Odds

If Swansea are looking to hire someone who is a former playing legend, then Alan Tate would clearly fit the bill, with the 38-year-old having made 257 appearances for the Welsh club after previously enjoying two loan spells at the Vetch Field.

Tate has enjoyed plenty of coaching experience at the Swansea City academy, having worked with the Under-16 and Under-18 division. He was also assistant first-team coach to Steve Cooper so there's the obvious potential for the former defender to be promoted from within.

Chris Wilder Offers More Experience in Championship

Many are surprised that Wilder hasn't yet returned to the dugout following his departure from Sheffield United last season, with the 53-year-old having achieved great things with the Blades considering that he steered them from League One to the Premier League and then kept them in the top flight for a season.

Wilder has surely been close to a number of other managerial appointments since leaving Bramall Lane and perhaps he's thrown his hat into the ring at the Liberty Stadium, although the fact that Cooper walked away due to a lack of financial backing suggests that there are set parameters within which a new manager is expected to work.

Eidur Gudjohnsen Would Be a Surprise Pick

Few expected to see the name of Gudjohnsen near the top of the Next Swansea City Manager betting market, with the Icelander having kept a relatively low profile since retiring as a player. The former Chelsea forward has enjoyed coaching roles in his native Iceland, although it does appear he has expressed an interest in this Championship role.

The 42-year-old is currently assistant manager of the Iceland national team which is effectively a part-time role and gives him the opportunity to consider other positions, although it would surely be a risk for Swansea to consider something this inexperienced.

Eddie Howe Looks Unlikely to Get Swans Job

Eddie Howe came desperately close to becoming the next Celtic FC manager before deciding to pass up the chance to manage the Scottish Old Firm club, with the former Bournemouth boss now looking for his next assignment. Perhaps Swansea will be a good fit for a young manager looking to get back into the game.

Howe is largely regarded as a successful manager from his time at AFC Bournemouth, having guided the Cherries from League One to the Premier League. He then kept the Dorset club in the top flight before they were relegated a little over a year ago. However, there were mitigating circumstances and there was plenty to like about the squad that was built.

It’s little surprise to find Howe among the frontrunners to follow in the footsteps of managers such as Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter, with Swansea generally adept at hiring coaches who get the team playing attractive football and also earn positive results.

Could Frank Lampard Return to Championship post?

Frank Lampard is someone who has enjoyed a taste of football management with Derby County and then Chelsea, with the former England midfielder recently telling the BBC that he’s now waiting for the right opportunity to come along.

Lampard certainly has an attacking football philosophy and there was plenty to like about the way he steered Derby to the Championship play-off final, with the manager using his contacts book to get Mason Mount, Harry Wilson and Fikayo Tomori, That helped the Rams to a top six spot and they then overcame Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds side in the play-offs before losing to Dean Smith’s Aston Villa.

Online bookies and betting apps think that Lampard is among the frontrunners to land this job and he might relish the chance to restore his managerial reputation, with the 43-year-old having been out of the game for the past few months. He might want to strike while the iron is hot.

Alex Neil Could Do a Job For Swansea

Another out-of-work football manager is Alex Neil, with the Scot having a fairly solid track record when it comes to the Championship. He has previously taken Norwich City into the Premier League, while he did a fairly solid job with Preston North End, despite having a modest budget.

Neil is still only 40 and will have learnt plenty from his time in charge of PNE and the Canaries. He spent four years at Deepdale and might relish a fresh start at a club who have hit the top six in the past two seasons and will be looking for that extra amount to get over the line.

Could John Terry Be Persuaded to Leave Villa?

John Terry is never far away from the top of the Next Manager betting market and it’s no surprise to find the Chelsea legend among the favourites to replace Steve Cooper at the Liberty Stadium. However, the former England captain has been part of a successful Aston Villa coaching team and JT doesn’t seem desperate to leave.

Perhaps Terry will at some stage take the reins at a club although it might not be the right time to take the plunge, even if football betting odds indicate he is a contender for the Swansea City hot-seat.

Lennon, Warne, Ainsworth and Pulis Next in Betting

Neil Lennon left Celtic last season after it became abundantly clear that the Hoops were going to relinquish their stranglehold on the Scottish Premiership title due to Rangers’ resurgence, with the Northern Irishman now looking for his next venture. Perhaps he’ll throw his hat into the ring for the Swansea post.

Paul Warne is in charge of Rotherham United and punched above his weight to keep the Millers competitive in the second flight before they were relegated last term, with the manager potentially looking for a new challenge. The Swans would certainly provide an opportunity.

The same applies to Gareth Ainsworth, who has a long-standing position at Wycombe Wanderers, although he might be persuaded to up sticks and give himself a chance to further his managerial career at a bigger and more prosperous club.

We’ve seen Neil Warnock and Mick McCarthy return to managerial positions in the Championship and perhaps Tony Pulis could be the manager that has the safe pair of hands required to steer the ship following Cooper’s decision to leave the club.
