When Will Horse Racing Return In The UK?

Unsurprisingly, like Football and every other sport in the UK, Horse Racing did not escape the mass culling of events across Britain.

Horse Racing in the UK will not take place until May at the earliest, with BHA chief executive Nick Rust admitting that nobody can be sure when racing might actually return in the United Kingdom.

Racing authorities in the UK were hoping to continue horse racing behind closed doors, as they currently are in the Republic of Ireland, but it was agreed by the industry’s stakeholders after meetings on Monday and Tuesday to shut up shop following a u-turn on government advice to now avoid all non-essential travel and to ramp up social-distancing measures to slow the spread of the virus.

Some major events have been lost, none more so than the Aintree Grand National. Tiger Roll was bidding to make history and win three renewals in a row, but unfortunately that will now have to wait another year, if they keep him in training!

The Grand National, the world's most famous National Hunt Race, has been cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak and will not take place in 2020. Authorities were trying to get the go ahead for the three day extravaganza to take place behind closed doors, but this was not possible.

Other major worldwide events such as the Kentucky Derby will be postponed and all racing in France has also been closed as a result of the outbreak.

When Will Horse Racing Return in Ireland?

The Irish Government decided on the 24/03/2020 that Irish Racing will cease, despite running behind closed doors for 7 days or so before this.

Ireland, similarly to the UK, is now clamping down on any real gathering of people and horse racing was deemed a non essential activity, understandably..

Where Else Is Horse Racing Actually Going Ahead?
