Tip 1 – 1.55 Haydock – Galloway Hills
From an ever-falling handicap mark, it could be worth backing Galloway Hills to return to his best for Phillip Makin. The 5-year-old, who last scored off 78 in a competitive York race last June, hasn’t pulled up any trees the last twice but is probably best suited to flatter tracks than Hamilton and may not have gone through the ground. This surface should be better for him and if he can get near the level he showed when third at Redcar on this season’s return, he’d be heavily involved.

Tip 2 – 2.25 Haydock – Pavers Pride
Pavers Pride hasn’t been with Paul Midgley all that long, lining up on four occasions, but has definitely thrived since joining up from Noel Wilson. Four runs have yielded one win and a trio of second-placed finishes, and although now back to his highest ever mark it wouldn’t be a surprise if the yard were able to eke out more from him. They’re experts in dealing with sprint handicappers and in a race where questions can be asked about many, he might just do the business again.

Tip 3 – 3.55 Haydock – Alablaq
It’s pretty safe to say that Alablaq bumped into a smart one when second to another of the Hamdan horses at Doncaster a couple of weeks ago. That runner, Albasheer, looks to be a Group performer in the making and the selection gets to make his handicap debut off 78, which could prove lenient. The way he has moved through his two races thus far certainly adds hope of better being to come and there’s no reason to think he can’t get the better of this lot. I think he should be hard to beat.

Tip 4 - 7.10 Perth - Cracking Destiny
The Whillans team has done well with Cracking Destiny since taking over the training duties from Ian Williams a couple of seasons ago and prior to that the 7yo started off life in bumpers for Nicky Henderson. Warmed up this term in a flat maiden won by Frankly Darling on the all weather and then an early unseat at Southwell sent the camp back to the drawing board although they quickly lined up again at Market Rasen and weakened out of a novice hurdle once the race got serious.
Chasing is more the game and a step back to the 2m4f trip should help matters and the mark of 130 is still very workable and with the race looking distinctly lacking of quality and consistency then Cracking Destiny looks to have been well placed to get heavily involved at a fair price once more for a shrewd team.
