Tip 1 - 3.10 Leicester - Nomadic Empire

If you were to watch the second and third runs of Nomadic Empire this year where he was placed off marks of 95 and 98, and then said we would be in mid September and the horse would not have won this year (from five further starts), you would have thought something was seriously wrong.

On his day he is a smooth travelling horse who has flattered to deceive at times, but has good form in higher grade races than todays. He really caught the eye two starts back in a valuable York handicap when he was cruising, but held up some way off the pace. He ended up on most parts of the course trying to gain a run and once he found daylight, the race was gone.

He has dropped down to 93 today and has the services of William Buick, who desperately needs as many wins as possible in his bid to overhaul Oisin Murphy. The selection has ran some good races from on the pace or just behind, so whilst he is normally held up, I wonder if they will switch tactics in a bid to make him competitive again.

Tip 2 - 3.22 Hamilton - Multellie

I sound like a broken record, but Multellie is another Tim Easterby trained horse that seems to come good at a particular time of year. He relishes soft ground which is a big plus today, but it is the month of September that catches my eye and in particular at Hamilton.

He won at this course in September 2016, 2018 and 2019 and in 2020 he won in September at Haydock. The winning marks were all around or slightly higher than today's mark and whilst he didn't perform with a lot of credit when last seen, he was disadvantaged the way the race was run by being held up at a track that this season and in a race that day that you had to race prominently. I would expect a very big run from him today.

Tip 3 - 4.10 Warwick - Go As You Please

I put up this horse at Huntingdon in March and he flew home, but not quite in time. That day I pointed out that good ground is extremely important to him as it allows him to jump a lot better and he has a definite good ground action.

Warwick puts plenty of emphasis on jumping and he seemed to relish the course this time last year when winging a number of fences on his way to beating Vue Cavaliere.

This is his seasonal debut today, but whilst he has not won after a break of this length of time, he has finished second a couple of times. I think 101 is still a winnable mark and if he jumps as well as his win here on his previous visit, he will take some beating.

Tip 4 - 6.30 Wolverhampton - Good Earth

Good Earth is a bit left-field as he hasn't won since hitting a purple patch in the spring and hasn't pulled a good draw in stall 10, but there are various reasons why I believe he can run a lot better than his price suggests. Firstly, the yard are in really good form at the moment with a strike rate of 27% and Saffie Osborne, in part due to riding for her father has a last fortnight strike rate also of 27% and one winner more than the trainer.

He has dropped to 65 which is one pound lower than his last winning mark (albeit on turf) and whilst I can understand it on his last few runs there is one huge question mark over the drop that cannot be taken into account. On his last two runs, the going was standard to slow which has not been ideal for him and he has performed well at this track when the ground has been standard. Prior to those two below par efforts, the form book will show he was fourth of nine at Windsor.

Whilst that is strictly true, his last actual run was at Glorious Goodwood in the Magnolia Cup Charity Event. That day, he performed miles above his official mark and dead heated for first with the 79 rated Batraan trained by Roger Varian who had won two of his previous three starts. He is a horse that is often held up so his wide draw may not inconvenience as it would have done if he was a front runner and he looks a bit of value, especially as he has won or placed in 11 of 25 runs.
