The Premier League sack race betting market will be all the poorer when Watford get relegated this season. The Hornets seem to have a new manager for each season of the year and it's likely that they'll be looking for someone imminently.

The leading betting sites have priced up a Next Watford FC Manager betting market, with John Eustace the strong favourite to replace Roy Hodgson when the time comes for the former England manager to step down at Vicarage Road.

Eustace is well regarded and looks open to the prospect of trying to steer Watford back to the top flight at the first time of asking. Diego Martinez is the second favourite and it's noticeable that Sean Dyche has shortened in the betting to return to his former club.

Will Eustace Take Poisoned Chalice at Watford?

John Eustace has been linked with a number of high-profile jobs although it could be that he decides to take charge of Watford ahead of the 2022/23 season. The former QPR caretaker coach has recently become assistant manager of the Republic of Ireland national team, although it appears as though he's the number one man to replace Roy Hodgson.

The bookies are taking no chances with their quotes about Eustace who is trading odds-on at the time of writing. However, this isn't a long-term job based on the procession of managers that enter and exit Vicarage Road. The 42-year-old might even decide to stay and assist Stephen Kenny with Ireland, although it's clear that his stock is high judging from the number of Championship clubs he is being linked to.

Could McKenna Switch from Ipswich to Hornets?

Kieran McKenna is a popular manager at Portman Road and it's certain that Ipswich Town will want to keep hold of their young manager this summer. The 35-year-old has earned rave reviews for the way that the Tractor Boys have been playing, particularly during the second half of the season.

Even though a League One promotion challenge didn't materialise in Suffolk, Ipswich were regarded as one of the standout teams in the past few months and they are likely to be installed among the favourites to reach the Championship next season.

However, McKenna might be the subject of a number of approaches and he's second favourite behind Eustace at the time of writing. Perhaps he will want to remain at Portman Road and deliver on his objectives.

Diego Martinez Enters Hornets Betting

Diego Martinez might not be very well known in England but that has often been the case when it comes to the managers selected by Gino Pozzo to take the poisoned chalice at Vicarage Road. The 41-year-old recently had a spell in charge of Granada, with the Spaniard having been out of work since last season and he also steered Granada to the Europa League where they lost to Manchester United in the last eight last season.

Martinez might be open to the prospect of resurrecting the fortunes of the Hornets in the same way that Xisco Munoz was able to do last season when steering them to promotion, although it's worth noting that this manager hasn't operated outside of his native Spain.

Money Comes for Gareth Ainsworth

Gareth Ainsworth is someone who has been in charge at Wycombe Wanderers for ten years. The 48-year-old has done remarkably well with the Chairboys and he steered the team to promotion from League Two in 2018. He then saw the team win the League One play-offs in 2020, with a victory over Oxford United helping the relatively small club into the Championship.

It will be interesting to see whether Ainsworth has any desire to manage at a higher level and he's currently occupied with trying to get Wycombe into the Championship through the play-offs. However, perhaps he feels as though there's an opportunity to take on a fresh and bigger challenge, with Watford certainly presenting that despite the fire and hire policy of Gino Pozzo.

Manning, Rooney and Dyche Also on Betting Shortlist

Liam Manning is another League One manager who has achieved good things albeit in a short space of time at MK Dons. The team narrowly missed out on automatic promotion from League One and could well reach the Championship through the play-offs. This looks like a young manager going places in the game.

The same applies to Wayne Rooney who has done an excellent job in highly difficult circumstances at Derby County. He might decide to stay put at Pride Park over the summer although there are sure to be clubs reaching out to him.

Sean Dyche is an altogether different prospect and the former Burnley manager has previously had a spell with Watford. The 50-year-old at the helm during the 2011-12 season before being axed by Pozzo, with the 50-year-old unlikely to return based on that sacking although stranger things have happened.
