Next Watford Manager Odds

To nobody’s great surprise, Xisco Munoz has been relieved of first-team duties at Watford FC. The Hornets were beaten 1-0 at Leeds United on Saturday, with Claudio Ranieri being installed as the early favourite to take the reins at Vicarage Road. The Italian will relish the chance to return to the English Premier League.

The Premier League sack race has now been settled for the first time this season, with Xisco Munoz being axed as Watford manager on Sunday.

The Spaniard was always going to have a tough challenge keeping his job for the 2021-22 season given the club’s policy of hiring and firing managers. Whichever leading betting sites you looked at, the Watford manager was top of the list of managers to lose their job next.

Watford haven’t wasted any time looking for a replacement and it appears that they have focused on making Claudio Ranieri their next gaffer. At the time of writing, no deal has been agreed although the Italian would be an obvious fit and he has the previous experience of landing the Premier League title with Leicester City.

The club are hoping to make the appointment as soon as possible so the new man can make the most of the international break to evaluate the squad he is inheriting.

Ranieri Ready For Premier League Return

Claudio Ranieri is a highly experienced football manager, with the 69-year-old having started his professional career in the dugout in 1986-87.

He has been in charge of some of the leading clubs in Europe, with the Italian having most recently been manager of Roma and Sampdoria, although English football fans will remember him for his spells with Chelsea and Leicester.

Indeed, Ranieri achieved the impossible when winning the 2015-16 Premier League title with the Foxes priced 5,000/1 in pre-season, and it is believed he could be close to securing the job at Vicarage Road, with Gino Pozzo the owner who is ready to make the hire and improve the chances of Watford staying in the top flight.

Ranieri is more accustomed to managing teams who are higher up the pecking order, although he is someone who is never out of management too long and his experience could be telling if he gets the nod. Ranieri is 1/7 to be appointed Watford's next manager.

Will Martinez Fancy Making the Premier League His New Home?

Diego Martinez might not be a familiar name when it comes to Spanish managers, but the 40-year-old has certainly proved his value as a manager. Martinez made his name as the man who turned around the fortunes of Granada.

Granada rose to prominence a couple of seasons ago when they finished seventh in La Liga to qualify for the Europa League. Few gave the minnows a hope in the group stage, but they made it through to the knockout stage where they beat Napoli before losing to Manchester United in the quarter-finals.

Currently out o work, Martinez is highly regarded as one of the best up-and-coming managers and it's no surprise to see him linked with the Watford job. Whether he fancies going to a club where managers are not given much time to stamp their authority on the club. Martinez is 7/2 with Paddy Power to be the Hornets' next manager.

Eddie Howe Linked to Watford Job

Eddie Howe is always shortlisted by the bookies when a high-profile position becomes available. This time is no different, although the former AFC Bournemouth manager might be happier to wait in the wings a little longer.

Howe was previously linked to the vacant Celtic manager’s position before deciding against taking the role and he could keep his powder dry here.

Howe is someone who has experience of managing the Cherries in a scrap against the drop although it has now been over two years since he’s been seen in a role and perhaps he’s now in no rush to return to the helm based on how low a public profile he has been keeping. Howe is 14/1 with Paddy Power to take over at Vicarage Road.
